Lemoncello Blackberry Tiramisu

This is my favorite tiramisu.
Don't get me wrong, I love the chocolate/coffee kind as much as the next person. But something about crisp, tangy lemon and the sweet juicy blackberry just makes me ready for summer right now. I love it. And since my lemoncello has aged for about 4 months, it's the perfect time to make it. You can love it too now.

Lemoncello Blackberry Tiramisu
from Alli Raw's Kitchen

2 packages ladyfinger (dried out overnight)
16 oz mascarpone cream cheese
1/4 cup light sour cream
3-4 tablespoons sugar
1 lb blackberries, fresh or frozen
4 tablespoons lemoncello
1/3 cup lemon juice

Blend the mascarpone, sour cream and sugar until smooth with no lumps. Check the taste, if still not sweet enough, add more. You do want it to be a little sweet because the lemoncello really isn't.

Get a deep dish that you won't be embarrassed pulling out for the world to see, because you're going to want to share this with everyone. (I used my mixing bowl for lack of better thing to find and well you have the picture...)

Mix the lemoncello and lemon juice together in shallow dish. Dip the ladyfingers in halfway and layer on the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle with blackberries. Spread 1/4 of the cream mixture, and smooth out. (The size and number of layers with obviously depend on the dish- just go along with it) You should have about 2-3 more layer. Top layer should be cream with 3-4 ladyfingers and a couple blackberries left over. Make something enticing on the top, or don't since you'll probably be inhaling it anyway shortly enough. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set but no more than 8. Try and stick to one serving. You could garnish with mint if you'd like.

The berries could be substituted for blueberries or raspberries and be just as delicious. Or strawberries. But with strawberries I'd up the amount to 1 1/2 lbs, chop them pretty well, and only use fresh. The frozen ones tend to get that goo whenever you go to defrost them. Delicious on ice cream, not so much with tiramisu.

Tragically I forgot all about picture taking, next time though I will not forget...

DIY Thread Holder

I had nearly filled up a basket with threads and have seen a couple wall mounted holders that looked interesting but I really wanted something with my own little flair. So I made one. And here's how.  First things first, I grabbed a rectangle of plywood I had from a previous project and cut it to roughly the size of what I wanted. Then I painted a background of what I wanted (inspired by Pinterest- an overly pixelated shot of Greenland. If I can find the owner of it I'll credit them.)  Once I was happy with how that turned out, I started on the framing. I measured out some trim wood (from same previous project) and painted them black. I also drilled a small hole in the center top of the board for easy and safe hanging.  My furry little helper made sure I didn't drip anywhere in his favorite area.  While those dried, I laid out where I wanted the thread spools to go and tapped in 2" nails just enough that they would stay but had most of the nail sticking out.  Ev...

Pink pencil skirt

Remember that herringbone pencil skirt a few posts back where I forgot stretch material? I learned my lesson. After a quick hour or so of stitching here is my latest. I got a hankering for a pink pencil skirt even though I never ever wear pink. Luckily I had some extra fabric on hand from an old project and put it to use. With no slits and a blind hem I'm pretty well satisfied with it!!!

Learn how to do a blind hem? Check!! One more night of hand blind stitching for the zipper and putting in a clasp and this little lady is ready to go public!!
